KU to open Department of Chinese Studies
KARACHI: University of Karachi would open a department for studying Chinese soon, said KU VC Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser during his visit to the 8th Confucius Institute Conference in Beijing.
He said the launch of Confucius Centre for Chinese Language at KU is an illustration of its futuristic vision because we realise that China is emerging as the fastest growing economy of the world and is likely to become a world power. He said in this perspective, the significance of Chinese language and culture is becoming stronger with every passing day. “As a strong economic hub, China is able to reduce the unemployment of third world countries and can empower its youth by providing quality education at subsidised rates,” he said. The Chinese Confucius Institute at KU would be among the 440 Confucius Institutes around the world. The mission of Confucius Institute at University of Karachi would be to meet the needs of those who are interested in learning Chinese for career development or enhancement of their learning experience. ppi
