JUI-F leads the race in Balochistan LG polls

QUETTA: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is leading the race in local government (LG) elections in Balochistan, according to official results announced by the Provincial Election Commission on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference at the Election Commission Office in Quetta, Provincial Election Commissioner Syed Sultan Bayazid said that official results, compiled by the EC Balochistan, had been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP, which would issue a notification on the final and official results “within two or three days”.

He said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) won 964 seats, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) 765 seats, National Party 562 seats and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured 472 seats in the polls. “However, local government elections are yet to be conducted in three districts – Harnai, Turbat and Awaran – as polls could not be held there on December 7,” he said, adding that election schedule would soon be issued.

He said that LG elections were held for 4,036 seats, including 472 seats of district councils, 772 of metropolitan, municipal corporations and municipal committees and 2,842 of union councils. He further said that 284 candidates have been elected unopposed for seats of municipal corporations and municipal committees and 2,120 for union councils. He said that LG elections were also conducted for Metropolitan Corporation Quetta where 21 independent candidates won seats out of total 58 contestants, PkMAP grabbed 18 seats, PML-N five seats, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Hazara Democratic Party and Balochistan National Party-M three seats each, while JUI-F and JUI-N won one seat each. app
