ISLAMABAD: The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has said that security ties with Pakistan are crucial for peace in the region.
ISAF Commander General Joseph Dunford departed Pakistan on Monday after a series of meetings with senior Pakistani leaders. A statement by the US embassy said that during his stay General Dunford discussed security issues with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashad Mahmood, along with other senior military officials. General Dunford was grateful for the opportunity to meet with his Pakistani counterparts and reaffirmed the importance of the US-Pakistan security relationship to regional stability.
General Dunford called on COAS General Raheel Sharif. According to ISPR, it was a routine coordination visit and the two discussed matters of mutual interest with particular focus on Pakistan-Afghanistan border coordination mechanism. The ISAF commander along with Office of Defence Representative Pakistan’s (ODRP) Lieutenant General Gregory A Biscone also called on CJCSC General Rashad Mahmood and remained with him for some time and discussed matters of mutual interest. The International Security Assistance Force is a NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan that was established by the United Nations Security Council in December 2001. Its main purpose is to train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and assist Afghanistan in rebuilding key government institutions. agencies
