PM chairs National Security Committee meeting

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) presided over by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is currently underway on Tuesday here, Geo News reported.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the heads of the three armed forces, federal ministers for defence, finance and information are attending the meeting.

Besides, Advisor to prime minister on foreign affairs and national security, Sartaj Aziz and high officials of the ministries of interior and foreign affairs are also present.

Sources said that D.G. Military Operations would be briefing the meeting about matters related to national security.

The meeting would also review the new national security policy prepared by the interior ministry besides security issues relating to the internal and external challenges and the strategy for possible talks with the Taliban would also be deliberated, sources said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held one-on-one meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif and exchanged views on the overall prevalent situation in the country.
