NEPRA rejects plea for power tariff hike

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has rejected a petition seeking fuel charges adjustment for the month of November. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested NEPRA to raise power price by up to 45 paisa/unit. Instead, NEPRA asked NTDC and CPPA to present electricity purchase and production record. NEPRA acting Chairman Khawaja Mohammad Naim said details given in the petition should be presented afresh and added that summaries prepared by clerks should not be submitted. He has ordered recovery from power generation companies of the payments made to them on account of gas infrastructure development. Calling for details from the CPPA, NEPRA said that despite the stay order, payments were made and billions of rupees were not deposited in the national exchequer. online
