Pakistan urges Dhaka to avoid blame game

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has said that Bangladesh is our neighbouring Islamic country and Pakistan wants to strengthen ties with it. In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesman said that both Pakistan and Bangladesh should avoid a blame game and try to strengthen their relations further. A day after the National Assembly passed a resolution condemning the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh leader Abdul Qader Molla, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday summoned Pakistan’s top envoy in Dhaka to register its protest. “This House expresses deep concern on hanging of a veteran politician of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh for supporting Pakistan in 1971,” the National Assembly resolution said. The House expressed grief and sorrow with the bereaved family and demanded avoiding revival of the wounds of 1971 and asked for amicably resolving cases against Bangladeshi leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami. Mollah was executed on Thursday for genocide during Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war, hours after the Supreme Court rejected his review petition. Pakistan’s High Commissioner Afrasiab Mehdi Hashmi was summoned on Tuesday evening to meet Foreign Secretary Mostafa Kamal. online
