Turk PM arrives today to boost economic ties
ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to reach Pakistan on a two-day official visit today (Monday) to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance co-operation in various fields.
The Turkish premier will land in Lahore accompanied by representatives of 33 top Turkish companies and a 48-member official delegation comprising of journalists and other high-ranking officials. He will move to Raiwind after attending a cultural event at Aitchison College. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will host a luncheon in honour of the visiting dignitary at Raiwind that would follow a business forum and signing of memorandums of understanding between both the countries.
The Turkish prime minister is leading a delegation comprising ministers, businessmen and entrepreneurs to explore the investment avenues in diverse fields in Pakistan. Erdogan is also scheduled to visit Mazaar-e-Iqbal and Badshahi Mosque. The Turkish prime minister would travel to Islamabad tomorrow (Tuesday) and meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The meeting will be followed by delegation level talks. President Mamnoon Hussain will also host a luncheon for the Turkish prime minister.
According to media reports, earlier, Pak-Turk Businessmen Association (PTBA) Secretary General Taner Kocyigit said that representatives of biggest Turkish companies in the field of energy, textile housing, waste management, agriculture, livestock, automotives, mining, aviation, telecommunication and transport are accompanying Prime Minister Erdogan.
Taner said main focus of Turkish investment will be on the fields of energy, housing, transport, agriculture and livestock. He said many Turkish companies are working in Sindh on coal-based and wind-based energy projects. He noted that the Turkish companies have expertise in hydropower generation and Pakistan can benefit a lot from their experience since God has blessed this country with rivers and it has a lot of potential in hydropower generation.
