Over 4,000 polling stations planned for LG polls in Karachi
KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would establish more than 4,000 polling stations for local government (LG) polls in six districts of Karachi. Opposition parties, including the MQM, PML-N and PML-F, are protesting against amendment to LG ordinance. According to ECP, 4,207 polling stations are being set up in all six districts of Karachi where registered voters would exercise their right to vote. The ECP has announced schedule for LG elections in Sindh according to which polling would be held on January 18. As per the schedule, nomination papers of candidates would be received from December 26 to December 29. The verification of nomination papers would be conducted from January 1 to January 5. Appeals against nominations would be filed on January 6 and 7 January while decisions on these appeals would be announced from January 8 to 11. The final list of candidates would be issued on January 13 and polling would be held on January 18.
