Court verdict on LG law to be accepted, says CM
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday said the matter pertaining to the Sindh Local Government Bill, 2013 was subjudice and whatever decision taken by the court will be accepted in this regard.
He was talking to media during his visit to the mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 137th birth anniversary of the founder of Pakistan.
Shah told a questioner that the legislation was enacted in the Sindh Assembly through consultation, but some parties had moved the court on recently enacted local government ordinance and now it was upon for the court to give its decision.
He said the provincial government would comply with court orders over amendments into the local government bill, adding that the government was not given time to convince the opposition parties.
He added that, “We had requested the Supreme Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan to give more time so that the objections on delimitation can be taken up to do it in a better way.”
The Sindh CM said that local government elections were being held on the directives of the Supreme Court.
He said that the legislations in the Sindh Assembly was done in consultations with the opposition parties and efforts were afoot to serve the people with consensus and unity.
Sindh CM said the constitution existed in the country and the judiciary had played a key role, adding suo motu became very popular as the people got relief. The freedom in the country was no less than any other, he said.
Shah said that the democracy and the institutions had gained strength in the country.
He said that Pakistan would progress and prosper through democratic process and said the legislature should play its role to frame laws for the betterment of the masses.
He said everyone should have a confidence that the country was second to none.
Strengthening of institutions and respecting constitution will help in development of the country, he added.
The Sindh CM said he had visited the Quaid’s mausoleum to salute the great leader of sub-continent on his birth anniversary.
To a question, he said the ban had been imposed on pillion riding in connection with the security arrangements of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A).
Foolproof security measures were taken to maintain peace on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A), which he said should be appreciated, he added.
Later, talking to media, Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan greeted the nation on the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam.
He said, “We should follow the principles of Quaid-e-Azam, which will help cope with the challenges confronting the country.
Earlier, the governor and the CM laid floral wreath and offered fateha at Mazar-e-Quaid.
