Indo-Pak cooperation in region’s interest: Pervaiz Rashid
* Information minister says government wants peace on borders as well as in country
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid has said that cooperation, rather than confrontation between Pakistan and India is in the interest of entire region.
Rashid welcomed the meeting of Pakistan and India’s directors general military operations (DGMOs) at Wagah on Wednesday. Speaking to media during a ceremony at the Presidency on the occasion of 137th birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pervaiz Rashid said “steps are taken to move forward”. The information minister said relations between the states are based on mutual interests which are to be safeguarded. He said it does not effect bilateral relations who rules in India. All the states of the region should live with peace, he said, adding that all have to fight underdevelopment, poverty and illiteracy jointly.
The information minister said peace and stability was in the interest of all countries in the region. He said that there was a realisation among all regional states that “cooperation, and not confrontation”, was vital for peace and stability in the region and was in the interest of all. To a question about the Tuesday’s meeting between the Pakistan-India directors general of military operations, the minister said peace in the region was in the interest of all countries, and “it was the first step in that direction”. “Whosoever comes in the government in the two countries, the relations always remain between the states.”
Rashid said our aim is to establish peace on our borders as well as in our country. He said we have got democracy in Pakistan after a long struggle against a dictatorial regime. He said it is the right of every government to complete its tenure as enshrined in the constitution. The minister noted that governments come and go through the power of people, which is the essence of democracy.
Rashid said Muhammad Ali Jinnah wished for a change through vote and he succeeded in getting a separate homeland for the Muslims of India through ballot. He said Pakistan wants peace in its all neighbouring countries, adding that it has suffered a lot in the past decades because of instability in the region. He stressed for a sustainable peace in the region and said Pakistan desires cordial ties with all its neighbours. Greetings the Christian community of Pakistan on the occasion of Christmas, he said today is the day of peace, which is an integral part of their belief. He said Christianity preaches the philosophy of love with humanity.
