Govt promoting interfaith harmony, says president
ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Friday the government was promoting interfaith harmony to ensure sustainable peace and prosperity in the country. He was addressing a reception he had hosted to mark Christmas celebrations.
The president said Pakistan is a multi-cultural society where people belonging to different faiths and religions have been living together in amity and mutual respect. Mamnoon Hussain said the best tribute to Jesus Christ would be to inculcate and practice the spirit of peace, love, tolerance and brotherhood. Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf and Bishop of Lahore Irfan Jamil also spoke on the occasion.
The president also cut a Christmas cake with the Bishop of Lahore. The reception was attended among others by federal ministers, parliamentarians, bishops and diplomats based in Islamabad.
