Process of filing papers for LG polls in Punjab completed
LAHORE: The six-day process of filing nomination papers for local government (LG) elections in Punjab has been completed. According to schedule, objections to the nomination papers can be filed today (Sunday) and scrutiny would take place from 30th of this month to 4th of the next month. Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers would be filed on 6th and 7th of next month and they would be disposed of from January 8 to January 11. Nomination papers can be withdrawn by January 12 and the list of contesting candidates with symbols would be published on January 13. Polling for LG elections in the province would be held on January 30. According to reports, 14,991 candidates from Lahore district alone have submitted their nomination papers. Among the nomination papers filed, 1, 522 are for chairman and vice-chairman and 768 for the general seats, while 1,001 youths and 1,574 women and peasants have also filed the papers for reserved seats.
