Sindh LB polls schedule likely to be cancelled

KARACHI: The schedule for the holding of Sindh local bodies elections is likely to be cancelled after the Sindh High Court (SHC) Monday ruling that declared the amendments in Sindh Local Government Act-2013 unconstitutional and illegal, while the Sindh Advocate General vowed challenging the ruling in the Supreme Court, Geo News reported.

Sources said that the SHC ruling has also rendered the filed nomination papers doubtful and a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would soon be called to review the SHC ruling and taking a final decision on the holding of Sindh LB elections.

However, ECP might announce its decision today in the backdrop of the situation emanating from the SHC verdict.

On the other hand, Sindh Advocate General, Khalid Javed said that we would be going to the Supreme Court against SHC ruling, which makes the holding of LB elections on January 18 improbable.
