Kidnapping for ransom : Balochistan govt to protest outside Parliament House
QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Saturday announced to hold a protest demonstration and sit-in outside the Parliament House on January 12 against “increasing cases of kidnapping for ransom” in the province.
Balochistan Minister for Law and Information Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal and Minister for Revenue, Excise and Taxation Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel announced this during a press conference. Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) central leader Dr Jehanzaib Jamaldini, Rasheed Nasar of ANP and others were also present on the occasion. Participants of the press conference also condemned the kidnapping of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Arbab Abdul Zahir Kasi.
The ministers said that the incidents of kidnapping for ransom have been “increasing rapidly” in the province. They demanded that law enforcement agencies play their role in curbing such incidents. The ministers said that all parties of the province would take part in the protest. They further said that heads of political parties would meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain to inform them regarding kidnappings in Balochistan. “We will mount pressure on law enforcement agencies to rein in kidnappers,” Ziaratwal said. He said that political parties’ representatives would also meet the chief minister and governor of Balochistan to apprise them about the alarming situation. Gunmen kidnapped Arbab Zahir Kasi from Quetta’s busiest commercial area of Moti Ram Road on October 23. Security agencies and police have remained clueless about his whereabouts. The ANP has been protesting against the kidnapping since the incident. Kasi’s family has also refused to pay the ransom to the kidnappers.
