Pakistan's new ambassador to US assumes charge

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani Monday took the charge of the post after arrival here, Geo News reported.

This post was vacant for the last seven months since the resignation of Sherry Rehman.

Talking to Geo News after assumption of his office, Jalil Abbas Jilani said that he would try to further strengthen the gradually improving Pak-US ties.

Until his appointment as Islamabad’s ambassador in Washington this month, Jilani was serving as foreign secretary of Pakistan, the country’s top career diplomat.

Previously, Jilani served as diplomat at the Pakistan embassy in Washington from 1995 to 1999. Ambassador Jilani’s previous assignment includes Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi from 1999 to 2003 and ambassador to European Union and Australia.
