Army chief expresses satisfaction on Zarb-e-Azb
Gen Sharif emphasises agreed security related initiatives with Afghan

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Friday expressed satisfaction on the progress of Zarb-e-Azb military operations and lauded the achievements made so far.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations Press Release, he made these remarks while presiding over 177th Corps Commanders' Conference held at General Headquarters here. The conference participants were briefed on the next phase of the operation. Ongoing intelligence based operations, which have led to the apprehension of a large number of militants hiding across Pakistan, were reviewed.

Appreciating the effort, Gen Sharif directed continuous evaluation of threat to ensure pre-emptive and effective response. He also stressed for effective integration of efforts of all intelligence agencies to achieve optimum results against the militants. Apart from discussing matters of professional interest, the participants undertook a comprehensive review of internal and external security situation of Pakistan.

The forum was also briefed on the improving Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relationship. The army chief emphasised early operationalisation of all mutually discussed and agreed security related initiatives with Afghanistan. Strategy for return of the displaced persons including rehabilitation of North Waziristan and rest of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was discussed in detail.

The army chief underlined the need, for preparation and integration of efforts with Federal and Provincial governments, for safe and dignified return of all the displaced persons to their homes on priority.
