JI delegation calls on CEC, endorses PTI’s demand for ECP reconstitution

ISLAMABAD - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has endorsed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) call for reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
A delegation of JI headed by Liaquat Baloch met Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan here on Friday. Talking to journalists after the meeting, Liaquat said that general elections 2013 have become controversial. He said that JI representatives have given suggestions to the CEC for electoral reforms in the meeting.
He suggested that the ECP should have financial autonomy. The JI leader further stated that the ECP should be awarded same stature as that of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The JI said that the CEC carries a job of protecting democracy in Pakistan.
