Altaf calls for martial law instead of military courts
KARACHI: Commenting on the ongoing political debate over establishment of military courts to cope with the menace of terrorism, Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday said martial law would be a better option if an undemocratic course was to be adopted.
Addressing a news conference by telephone, the MQM chief said: “Instead of announcing military courts, martial law should be imposed”. He said martial law should be imposed once more in the country as it had been enforced in the past.
He said that Pakistan could not be saved until the entire nation stood behind the armed forces.
Altaf Hussain asked Chief of the Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif to take over the reigns of power for two years in line with the examples of Turkey, France and US where military men brought independence to their nations.
