Lifting moratorium on executions internal matter of Pakistan: US

WASHINGTON – The US has termed lifting of moratorium on executions as internal matter of Pakistan.
In a briefing, US State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said that Pakistan was the most affected country in war against terrorism and lifting moratorium on executions is its internal matter. She said that US President Barack Obama and Secretary John Kerry both spoke to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after Peshawar school attack and stood ready to provide assistance in the wake of that horrific attack.
To a question, Ms Harf said said that terrorism was a threat for both US and Pakistan and they had worked jointly to counter this menace. About the bail granted to accused in Mumbai attacks, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Harf said US was concerned over it. The government of Pakistan had pledged its cooperation in bringing the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice; she said and hoped that Pakistan would uphold that promise.
