Terrorists will soon be flushed out of Pakistan: Bokhari

ISLAMABAD – Senate Chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari has said that Pakistan's armed forces are fighting vigorously against the terrorists. He said that the whole political leadership has united in its resolve to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan and now that the whole nation stands behind the government and the armed forces, we are sure terrorists will soon be flushed out of Pakistan.
In an exclusive interview to the Times of Oman in Muscat on Wednesday, he said that one must understand that it is not only Pakistan who has to play its part. Pakistan is in a state of war which was started almost three decades ago and Pakistan had to bear the brunt of it with damaging consequences. It may be noted that Senate chairman is on a bilateral visit to Oman on a special invitation of Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of Oman's Council of State. He said that Pakistan has been the worst victim of terrorism and has paid a heavy price for maintaining peace in the region. “The world must understand this and world nations must come forward to support Pakistan in this war against terrorism,” he said.
Nayyer Bokhari said that Pakistan has taken a stand on capital punishment and it is going to strengthen its system of prosecution to ensure that terrorists are brought to book as swiftly as possible. He stated that Pakistan’s parliament is planning a slew of legislative measures to protect both the presiding officers as well as the witnesses for a free and fair trial.
Talking about the deadly attack in Peshawar in which Pakistan lost more than 140 people, including more than 130 children, he said that the attack shook the entire nation irrespective of caste, creed or religion and the whole political leadership is united in taking tangible action against the perpetrators. He said that he had come to Oman to enhance interaction between the parliaments of Oman and Pakistan to strengthen bilateral relations. He remarked that the parliament is a place where the will of the people resides. “Apart from the government to government contacts, the parliamentarians should meet and interact often so that they are able to understand the issues and help their respective governments particularly in the areas of trade and economy”, he said.
It is worth mentioning that Oman participated in the recently held Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Lahore. Oman currently exercises status of an observer state of APA. “We believe 21st century is Asia's century and for Oman to play its active part in the assembly, we really look forward to seeing Oman as a permanent member in the future,” he said. Nayyer welcomed the assurance of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani not to allow his country's soil for terrorist activities against any country. He said that Pakistan also extends the same assurance not only to Afghanistan but to every country in the region. “We must understand each other's difficulties and try to overcome the hurdles, he said.
