QUETTA - President Mamnoon Hussain has asked the nation to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Pakistan Army in order to defeat the terrorists.

The president, who arrived in Balochistan on December 24 on a three-day visit, hoisted the national flag at the newly renovated Quaid-e-Azam Residency in Ziarat that was attacked and destroyed by armed men in June 2013.

Later, renowned architect Nayyar Ali Dada reconstructed the residency in a period of four months and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the building on August 14, 2014 in a special ceremony that was also attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

The flag-hoisting ceremony was organised on the day of Quaid-e-Azam’s 138th birth anniversary which is being celebrated today (Thursday, 25th December) across the country with passion and feelings of gratitude for the father of the nation.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had spent last days of his life in Ziarat District at the historic wooden structure following the advice of the doctors. Ziarat is considered a tourist point in the insurgency-hit Balochistan province where a large number of tourists visit the town and national monument every summer.

Addressing a gathering of local notables at the residency, Mamnoon said that the Peshawar tragedy had deeply hurt the whole nation and caused a major setback.

The president said that everyone must unite against the terrorists as now it was the time to make things right. “Pakistan will be at peace once we have eliminated all traces of terrorism. We must stand up again bravely and show no fear to the terrorists and provide moral support to the armed forces so that the enemy is weakened to the core as soon as possible,” he added.

With regards to the attack on the residency in 2013, he said that terrorists tried their best to destroy it to the ground but the nation could still overcome such incidents in the light of knowledge and guidance provided by the founder of the nation.

Mamnoon noted that the Balochistan government restored the residency back to its original condition through its efforts. “Very soon Balochistan would be the key corridor for the economy to flourish further in Pakistan and the Gwadar port would also be very active soon as well as a Gwadar airport will be developed,” he said.
