JUI-F conditionally agrees to military courts
* Says power is the only option left now to quell terrorism

 

ISLAMABAD: JUI chief Fazalur Rahman on Wednesday gave his conditional consent to establishing military courts.

Talking to media persons after a meeting of Muttahida Majlis Ulema, Fazl said that some political parties showed their reservations over these courts, however his party would endorse them when all others agreed to this step. He also spoke about the talks about reforms in seminaries and said that meeting of ulema showed some reservations over targeting these seminaries and noted that misunderstandings are deliberately being created about these religious institutions which he said are the largest educational network of the country.

He said that 90 percent seminaries are working as per the law and if authorities found any unregistered one they should take action against it. Replying to a query, Fazl said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain overreacted against Lal Masjid’s Maulana Abdul Aziz about his statement showing reluctance to condemn Peshawar carnage. “I telephoned Altaf and ask him not to open a new front,” Fazl disclosed to media. To a question about death penalty, JUI-F chief these penalties should be executed without any discrimination.

About the meeting of Muttahid Majlis Ulema, Fazl said that it strongly condemned the Peshawar incident and termed it a barbaric incident. The meeting also resolved to extend full support to the government to curb the terrorism in the country and called upon the government to punish the culprits of this heinous crime. Meeting, Fazl added also recommended to ban the religious literature that foments hatred and also suggested that the authors of such literature should also be taken to task. “The ulema would also work to create sectarian harmony in the country, JUI-F stated.

Fazl said that there was no other option than use of power to quell terrorism. Speaking at the parliamentary leaders meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, he said “I assure you JUI-F would support any measure that is taken to put an end to terrorism.” He added that he was standing beside the political leadership of the country. He said that he would back military courts if they were established with the consultation of law experts.
