PML-N, PTI fail to reach agreement on judicial commission’s TORs
Next session of talks to be held on Tuesday after guidance from leadership

ISLAMABAD – Though the Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Saturday failed to arrive at an agreement on the terms of reference of the Judicial Commission but both the sides expressed the hope to reach an understanding after getting briefs from their leadership.

The talks between the two sides were held at the residence of the PTI leader Jehangir Tarin but both sides could not bridge the gap on three contentious issues. After the meeting, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the PML-N with utmost sincerity made important progress in talks with the PTI today. He said that the PML-N team held a detailed discussion with open mind on the three issues highlighted by the PTI.

He said on the three points under discussion with the PTI both the sides will consult their respective leaderships for seeking guidance. The PML-N agreed to all points except three related to the proposed Judicial Commission Ordinance. Later, talking to journalists, the PTI leader Jahangir Tareen said that serious efforts were under way to reach an understanding with the government on the constitution of judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging in elections.

He said that both the sides have demonstrated flexibility and the issue could be settled if the government team takes another step forward. He said that his party would not doubt the intention of the government. The PTI leader Shireen Mazari said while some progress was made, thre was no agreement on the outstanding core issues. The next session of the talks will be held on Tuesday as there is a meeting on National Security issues on Monday with the opposition parties.
