PPP would not let misuse of military courts: Sherry

SUKKUR - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior Vice President Sherry Rehman has said that it was a difficult task to develop consensus over establishing military courts in Pakistan but leadership of the political parties preferring national interest to end menace of terrorism and extremism agreed over their formation.
Talking to journalists during her visit to Sukkur IBA on Sunday, Sherry Rehman said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari during his speech on the occasion of 7th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Buksh has clarified that though his party accepted formation of military courts but it would not let misuse of the new law in order to deal with terrorism.
She said that legal counsels of the PPP will look into the issue of military courts law and it won’t be allowed to become permanent but for a limited timeframe and dealing with terrorism related cases only. She said that the PPP throughout its history has supported the armed forces and police of Pakistan and today it was standing at their back to promote their morale in ongoing war against terrorism. She said that issues settled by the parliament and consensus of political forces having representation in the National Assembly should not be made issue of discussion in media.
