PM calls for gearing up efforts for producing low-cost electricity
Nawaz welcomes international support for Pakistan to help overcome energy shortage

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday called for gearing up efforts for generating energy at low cost in order to make it affordable for the common man.
The prime minister in his opening remarks at the 6th meeting of Cabinet Committee on energy directed that supply of electricity be improved by the summer of 2015 to provide relief to the people. He said that all hurdles in the way of speedy power generation should be overcome. He expressed the confidence that duty free import of solar panels would help in reducing load on the existing system. He also welcomed international support to Pakistan to help it overcome energy shortage.
The meeting reviewed progress and decisions taken during the previous five meetings and was attended by the ministers for finance, petroleum, planning, water and power. It also reviewed short and long term policies and power generation projects to meet energy shortage. The prime minister was given an overview of the power projects planned to be completed till 2021. In this regard, the prime minister directed that all efforts be made to complete projects within stipulated deadlines.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Prime Minister's spokesman Musaddiq Malik and Pakistan's ambassador to China also attended the meeting.
