Opposition to cooperate with govt in terror elimination fight: Aitzaz
APP
ISLAMABAD – Leader of Opposition in Senate Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday said that the opposition parties were ready to cooperate with the government for exterminating the menace of terrorism, if government showed seriousness.
Speaking on a point of order, he said that the interior minister should take the upper house into confidence on issue of terrorism. “The House must be taken into confidence by the prime minister himself or the interior minister,” he added.
Commenting on reports that the ongoing debate on Peshawar tragedy would be wound up on Wednesday by the state minister for interior, he said that the opposition respects State Minister for Interior Balighur Rehman, but the opposition would not allow him to speak in the Senate as Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan must wind up the debate.
He stressed that current atmosphere of reconciliation and broad consensus must not be vitiated. “Senate must be taken into confidence what measures are being taken to deal with Taliban by the interior minister himself,” he added.
Criticising Chaudhry Nisar Ali, he said that the interior minister was heading 12 out of 17 committees constituted to monitor or implement the National Plan of Action (NAP).
