Nawaz, Ghani discuss bilateral relations, regional security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday.

According to the prime minister’s spokesman, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional security. The ongoing operation against terrorists at the border was also discussed during the telephone call.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with a Afghan parliamentary delegation where he stressed the importance of Pak-Afghan relations, emphasising that both countries were determined to enhance political ties and eliminate terrorism.

Prime Minister Sharif said a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan. ‘Both nations want to achieve peace and stability in the region,’ the prime minister was quoted as saying.

The prime minister spoke of the desire of both nations to enhance trade relations, stating that exchange of delegations were useful in bringing people closer.

Prime Minister Sharif also informed the Afghan delegation of operation Zarb-e-Azb, telling them that it had been successful in destroying the network of terrorists.
