ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday appreciating the role of the political and military leadership for forging unanimous stance against terrorism, called upon them to stand united against this menace.
Addressing a Senate session, the prime minister said that he could not forget the scenes of innocent children, citizens and the military men killed by militants in cold blood. “Do you think I have no sentiments about them? Can I forget the corpses of armed forces personnel thrown on the ground with their throats slit open! Football was played with their heads!” he lamented. He said that these militants attacked Karachi airport with merciless killing spree, and in the recent incident, (in Peshawar) they killed about 150 persons within a wink of an eye.
“I have been trusted with the prime ministership by the masses and all the people sitting here are mandated by their respective constituencies. It is our joint duty to ponder over the crucial situation created by the militants. When we think on the same lines; Pakistan would get rid of this menace very soon.” “We have to think for our nation and our energies should be focused on those objectives,” Nawaz said. He noted that once they had devised a panacea for the ill (terrorism), then they would be able to overcome all other issues as well.
“Is it acceptable that armed militias are roaming freely, threatening the peaceful citizens? Whether it is acceptable to us that anyone who holds gun, rules over us and the people get frightened with them! Other countries also feel threatened as well; see what the image of Pakistan in the outer world is. If we did not rectify the issue then who will do it,” he asked. He said they (rulers) were not sitting there permanently. “Today I am the prime minister, tomorrow anyone else would be in my place but it is our duty that we have to shape the future of the nation.”
He said the people had the right to take a sigh of relief, mothers should have no concerns over safety of their school-going children and wives should not to worry for the lives of their husbands. “If today, we move ahead with sincere intentions, it would be good for us and Pakistan as well as those who get this law enacted. Insha'Allah, the country would have no dangers,” he said.
