Nisar defends Pakistan’s stance on deportees’ issue
Interior minister says Pakistan to invite European envoys on security issues

ISLAMABAD– Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Friday that he would soon invite all European ambassadors in Pakistan to deliberate on strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union, especially in the area of security and in dealing with the issues of mutual concern.
Talking to German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel here at the Punjab House, Nisar said that Pakistan values its friendly relations with Germany and wants to further strengthen this relationship in all possible areas for the mutual benefit of the two countries. He acknowledged the support of Germany in socio-economic development of Pakistan, assuring the envoy of all possible support towards her efforts in cementing bilateral ties during her tenure.
Discussing Pakistan-EU re-admission agreement, the minister said that the stance of the government regarding the issue of deportees was aimed at not only ensuring that international laws were followed by all the parties concerned but also to make sure that basic human rights of the deportees were protected. “We are committed to ensure that such people who are involved in any violation of immigration laws of Pakistan or any other country and their facilitators are brought to book,” he said.

He said that the government of Pakistan acknowledges the concerns of the European Union regarding the issue of illegal migrants and was trying to discourage illegal movement to the European countries through a crackdown on human smuggling rings within and outside Pakistan.The German ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s stance, adding that the two countries may also explore possibility of a separate protocol on the issue of deportees.
Talking about the new policy regarding the non-governmental organisations, the interior minister observed that the new policy was aimed at further strengthening government-NGOs partnership. He said that it was encouraging to see a large number of international organisations applying for registration with the government as per the new policy.
The ambassador appreciated the efforts of the minister for streamlining the working of the foreign organisations in Pakistan and expressed the hope that his ministry would continue to provide all possible assistance to the organisations in their mission to serve the people in various sectors.
Lepel said that Germany values its ties with Pakistan and the government and the people of Germany were keen to strengthen their equation with the government and the people of Pakistan.
