US welcomes restoration of Pak-India talks

WASHINGTON: The United States has welcomed restoration of Pakistan-India talks. US State Department spokesman John Kirby expressed desire that Islamabad and New Delhi resolve their disputes through negotiations. He said the restoration of Pakistan and India talks was longstanding desire of United States. Washington always encouraged both countries for talks and will continue to encourage, the spokesman added. John Kirby said Pakistan and Indian ministers’ meetings were encouraging. US State Department spokesman said normalisation of India-Pakistan relations is vital not only for both countries but also for the entire region. John Kirby said India and Pakistan “stood to benefit from practical cooperation,” and the US encouraged both India and Pakistan to engage in direct dialogue aimed at reducing tensions.
