PM in Turkmenistan to attend int’l conference, TAPI ground-breaking

ASHGABAT - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday arrived here in Turkmenistan on a two-day visit at the invitation of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

On his arrival at the airport, the prime minister was warmly received by Turkmenistan deputy prime minister and other officials.

During the visit, he will participate in the ground breaking ceremony of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project along with the presidents of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Indian leadership.

The prime minster will also attend the International conference being convened in Ashgabat to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality. A number of heads of states would attend the conference.

The prime minister’s visit would provide a good opportunity for Pakistan to reaffirm its support for Turkmenistan’s long standing policy of permanent neutrality. It would also highlight the importance of Pakistan attached to the TAPI project and commitment to its early completion.

In his bilateral interactions with the Turkmen President, the prime minister would share Pakistan’s perspective on important developments impinging on peace and security in the region and reiterate Pakistan’s keen desire to sustain and expand bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan in trade, energy and defence.
