PM for effective execution of National Health Insurance Programme
Nawaz says poverty cannot be eliminated without curing ailing poor

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday directed effective execution and monitoring of the National Health Insurance program aimed at providing free of cost treatment for the downtrodden.
He was chairing a meeting on National Health Insurance programme here at the PM House. The meeting reviewed the status and progress made in regard to finalisation and launch of the programme.
He said that the scheme was designed for those who were unable to pay for their medical treatment. “Poverty cannot be eliminated without curing the ailing poor,” he said. Terming the programme as crucially important health initiative, he said that it should be executed in phases to filter-out deficiencies, if any, during the implementation stage.
He also directed that an awareness campaign be launched so that the people were fully aware about the programme and the type of ailments covered under it.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar, Special Assistant Dr Musadik Malik and senior officials of the government.
