ISLAMABAD - Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday informed the National Assembly that the terrorists have just been marginalised after the launch of the National Action Plan but the government still have to remain vigilant as the war on terror had not yet finished.
Sharing two-and-a-half-year performance of his ministry, he said that the ministry did a lot of work and shared more than 2500 intelligence reports with the law enforcing agencies as well as provincial governments. He said that more than 900 information excerpts were shared with the security agencies of the provincial governments which resulted into intelligence-based operation against the terrorists and the extremists.
He said that the ministry was in well coordination with the provincial governments and this collaboration had resulted in improvement of the law and order situation throughout Pakistan. He said that the frequency of terror incidents had also declined considerably as there was no occurrence of such incidents on daily basis.
Nisar said that a joint intelligence directorate would be set up within a period of three months as funds had already been allocated for the purpose. This would help further improve the intelligence sharing and subsequently would help eliminate menace of terrorism. He also said that the ministry had taken several measures to curb corruption in all attached departments and organisations.
Several employees of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), passport offices, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and police had not only suspended from their services but had been arrested and sent to jail for malpractices, the minister said. He said that 64 employees were sacked from the FIA, who approached the court.
However, they had been marginalised and sent back to their own organisations. “There is a need that we pay attention towards financial position of FIA employees as they are less paid as compared to police force,” he said. He said that lack of appropriate human resource was the biggest problem, adding that there was also not a proper system to promote employees to higher grade as even annual confidential reports (ACR) were not written on merit.
He said that all foreign security agencies had been banned to work in Pakistan. He said that more than 1,000,000 national identity cards were blocked and 10 NADRA officials were sacked on the issuance of wrong cards. He said that online passport facility would be introduced as a facility to the people.
Initially, the scheme would be introduced in a few cities and later would be extended to other areas, he said. He also said that mega passport offices would be established all across Pakistan, some would be established in January 2016 and others during the remaining year.
