Musharraf treason case: Govt declares seat of special court judge ‘vacant’
INP

ISLAMABAD - Federal government on Thursday declared the seat of special court judge ‘vacant’ in Musharraf treason case.

The federation sent a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), seeking to appoint new judge and informed that Justice Faisal Arab - who was previously leading the case - had become the judge of Supreme Court (SC) due to which he would be unable to hear the case anymore.

It was also demanded to hire as many as three senior judges of High Court as only two judges Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali were currently working in special court. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had also submitted an initial report to registrar in this regard and requested to announce another timeframe for probe.

Pervez Musharraf’s counsel Faisal Chaudhry filed a plea pertaining to return the surety bonds of former president which was dismissed by the registrar due to the absence of full bench.

Subsequently, the registrar had adjourned the hearing of the case till January 13.
