PTI wants govt to take alliance to parliament
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafqat Mehmood Thursday demanded that the matter of Pakistan’s membership in the counter-terrorism force of 34 Islamic countries be discussed in parliament. Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said there was news in the media regarding Pakistan’s participation in the counter-terrorism force, and asked Foreign Office to clarify the matter before the nation, as it was a sensitive subject. He said PTI would take a decision after the nature of alliance is revealed and other details are clear. The kingdom’s announcement of the 34-nation coalition to combat terrorism on Monday night offered few details beyond the names of those involved and that an operations center would be set up in Riyadh. Egypt, Jordan, Libya and Lebanon have welcomed the alliance and confirmed their roles. Talking about the issue pertaining to Rangers powers, he said the resolution adopted by Sindh Assembly to curtail them was an attempt to sabotage the Karachi operation. “Elimination of corruption from society is a must for complete success in the war against terrorism,” he said, adding that significant improvement had been witnessed in the law and order situation in the city after the launch of the operation and the people were supporting this.
