Sindh govt replaces special public prosecutor in Dr Asim Hussain case
KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has replaced the special public prosecutor in the case against former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain, who faces charges of abetting terrorists.
The Sindh government has now appointed Nisar Ahmed Durrani in place of Mushtaq Jehangiri as the special public prosecutor in the case against the former petroleum minister.
The move comes a day after Rangers filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against the possible transfer of the special public prosecutor in the case.
In their petition, the Rangers submitted that the provincial government, with ulterior motives, was trying to influence the investigation and prosecution of the trial against Dr Asim.
The Rangers claimed that, following the transfer of the investigation officer, the Sindh government wants to replace special public prosecutor Mushtaq Jehangiri to assist Dr Hussain, who is known to be a close aide of former president and Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
