Zarb-e-Azb will bring fight against terrorism to logical end: Mamnoon

LAHORE: President Mamnoon Hussain on Sunday said that operation Zarb-e-Azb would bring the fight against terrorism to its logical end.

Addressing a seminar titled ‘Our Goal - Modern Islamic, Democratic, Welfare Pakistan’, the president said that terrorists would not be spared at all.

He admired the role of the armed forces in weeding out terrorism from the country and said that sacrifices of the forces would be written in golden words. He saluted the spirit and valour of the soldiers and law-enforcement agencies in fight against terrorism.

On a question from the audience to build Kalabagh Dam, the president said the government was almost ready to build Diamer-Bhasha Dam which would generate 4,500 MW of electricity. He said government was also working on the Gwadar Port, Lahore-Karachi motorway and the Hazara motorway projects while production of electricity was also being planned through solar and wind resources. He urged people to reject the detractors of these development project of the government. He urged the people to support government as the completion of these projects would fulfil the dream of Allama Iqbal as per the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam.

President Mamnoon said the government had been making efforts to put the country on a right path though it inherited a poor economy with Rs 14,800 billion in foreign debt. He regretted the previous regimes did not construct new dams and allocate sufficient funds for education, health and energy sectors.’

The president said the people must wage a war against corruption and raise voice and boycott the corrupt elements in the society. He stressed the need to follow the golden principles of Quaid-e-Azam like ‘Faith, Unity and Discipline’ so that corrupt could be made accountable.

Recollecting the early years in Pakistan’s history, he said every department had been deteriorated after the 70s, adding it is collective responsibility to make Pakistan a prosperous country. He said, “Quaid-e-Azam believed in ‘hardwork, hardwork and hardwork’ and it is only by truthful adherence to the sayings of the Quaid that we can achieve glory.”

He said China was a poor economy in the early 80s but it was hardwork and dedication of the Chinese people which has transformed it into an economic giant and world leader today.

The president said school, college and university students should be introduced with the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam which would help groom their personality. He said it would help the students evaluate and assess positive and negative values - ultimately avoiding corruption, intolerance and narrow-mindedness. He urged female students to seek higher education as their role was vital for being 50 percent of the population.
