SHC indicts IGP Jamali, other top cops in contempt case
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday indicted Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali, former Additional IGP Ghulam Qadir Thebo and seven other top police officers of the province in contempt of court case against them.
The police officers are facing charges of ordering to besiege the SHC during the hearing of former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza.
While rejecting the apologies of police officers, the SHC bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh indicted IG Jamali, former AIGP Thebo along with DIG West Feroz Shah, In charge SSU Major (retd) Saleem, AIG Faisal Basheer Memon, former SP Raees Abdul Ghani, West Headquarters SP Tahir Noorani, DIG South Dr Jameel Ahmed, SSP Fida Hussain and SI Jahangir Mahar.
The court framed its contempt charges under article 204 whereas the officers pleaded not guilty.
The of court’s proceeding was initiated on the petition filed by Zulfiqar Mirza who moved the court against top policemen of the province for besieging SHC and beating his guards and journalists on 23rd May 2015.
In the earliest hearings the court had rejected their apologies but they were not indicted as the Advocate General Sindh had requested the court to delay their indictment.
