Dar, Maleeha discuss Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Ambassador to the USA Jalil Abbas Jillani called on Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar here on Tuesday.
They discussed follow up action on decisions taken during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the US with particular focus on enhancing economic and trade relations between Pakistan and thE US. They also exchanged views on Pakistan’s active participation in the Paris Climate Conference.
The minister said that economic relations between Pakistan and the US had grown from strength to strength but continues to be characterised by vast untapped potential. There was a need to act towards strengthening this important component of relationship as was resolved between President Obama and Prime Minister Nawaz. He emphasised that due focus be laid on the meeting of Pakistan-US Working Group on finance and economic cooperation due early next year and hoped it would help strengthen bilateral economic ties.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi also called on the finance minister. She apprised the minister about her efforts to positively project Pakistan’s standpoint on various issues of national and international significance at the forum of the UN. She mentioned the Kashmir issue and Pakistan’s continued efforts to eradicate the menace of militancy which had received international recognition.
Dar appreciated her efforts for highlighting the Kashmiris’ cause at the UN. He said the government was now also focused on rehabilitation of the temporarily displaced persons and hopes for the international community to lend us due support in the matter.
