China welcomes Nawaz-Modi meet in Lahore

BEIJING: After US and United Nations, China has also welcomed Sunday’s meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Lahore.

China’s foreign ministry expressed support for steps being taken with an aim to build bilateral trust between Pakistan and India.

The ministry further said that China is a common neighbour of Pakistan and India and termed improvement in their bilateral relations of great significance for peace and stability in the region.

On Sunday, Narendra Modi paid what is being termed a surprise visit to Pakistan during which he met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in a ‘very pleasant’ atmosphere.

Pakistan foreign secretary, Aizaz Chaudhry said both the PMs resolved to continue the peace process through resumption of talks which has been given the name of ‘comprehensive bilateral talks’.
