Army chief says fear of terrorists, criminals reduced in Pakistan

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said that environment of fear and retribution from terrorists and criminals reduced in Pakistan and security needs to be transformed into an enduring peace and stability in the country.
The Army chief was chief guest on 49th convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), which was held on Monday here at Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad.
President CPSP Zafarullah Chaudhry in his welcome address lauded the Army chief for his strenuous efforts for restoration of peace and stability in Pakistan, and remarkable achievements against terrorism and for modernising the health care system in Pakistan Army.
During the ceremony, the Army chief was also conferred upon the honorary fellowship of the college. The citation of the CPSP also reads that “General Raheel Sharif through his vision, resolve, sincerity and commitment against terrorism had become a leading figure of our times.”
Addressing on the occasion, the Army chief said that these days an environment had been created in Pakistan where fear and retribution from the terrorists and criminals had largely been reduced. He said that relative security needs to be transformed into an enduring peace and stability and approach of the whole nation was important to bring army’s endeavors to a logical end. He also paid rich tribute to sacrifices of soldiers and citizens for restoration of peace in Pakistan.
Congratulating the graduating students, the Army chief said that to steer this country towards success, we need to invest in our future generations. “To this end, every individual, especially the educated professionals, have an enormous responsibility. It is my belief that today’s fellows will rise and shine as the future of Pakistan,” he said. He also appreciated the college leadership for improving postgraduate medical education and health care services in Pakistan.
