RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said on Monday that the fear of terrorists in the people had been reduced greatly and stressed the need for educational investment for a better future.
The COAS was awarded an honorary fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) during the 49th CPSP convocation ceremony held at the Jinnah Convention Centre here on Monday. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release stated.
Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry, President CPSP, in his welcome address, acknowledged the services of COAS General Raheel Sharif for his historical contributions and strenuous efforts for peace and stability in the country, his remarkable achievements against terrorism and for modernising the healthcare system in the Pakistan Army.
During the ceremony, the COAS was also conferred an honorary fellowship of the CPSP for his achievements. The citation of the CPSP also reads that “General Raheel Sharif through his vision, resolve, sincerity and commitment against terrorism has become a leading figure of our times.”
According to the sources, after 26 years, the College of Physicians and Surgeons has given honorary fellowship to someone. Before it, former president General Ayub Khan, Prince Karim Aga Khan and former prime minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto were given this award.
Speaking on the occasion, the COAS said that today, by the Grace of Allah Almighty, an environment had been created where fear and retribution from terrorists and criminals had largely been reduced. Relative security needs to be transformed into an enduring peace and stability for the nation. “The wholesome national approach is important to bring our endeavours to a logical end,” the COAS said and paid rich tributes to sacrifices of citizens and soldiers in achieving this state of stability and peace.
While congratulating the graduating students, the COAS said, “To steer this country towards success, we need to invest in our future generations. To this end, every individual, especially the educated professionals, have an enormous responsibility. It is my belief that today’s Fellows will rise and shine as the future of Pakistan.” General Raheel Sharif appreciated the college leadership for improving the postgraduate medical education and healthcare services in the country.
