SC inquiry finds 'monumental failure to combat terrorism'
ISLAMABAD: After continuously working for 56 days, the Supreme Court on Thursday released Quetta Inquiry Commission Report highlighting glaring lapses in government's anti-terror policy that led to the Quetta tragedy.
The 109-page report, authored by Justice Qazi Faez Isa, said 'there is a breakdown in the implementation of law and order' in Balochistan and the 'Ministry of Interior is without clear leadership and direction; consequently, it is confused about its role in combating terrorism'.
Exercising powers under Article 184 (3), the apex court constituted the commission on 06th October to investigate the 08 August suicide attack at the Civil Hospital Quetta, which claimed 70 lives and injured as many as 112 people including many senior lawyers of Balochistan.
The report concluded that the Federal Interior Minister, the Chief Minister Balochistan and the Home Minster gave ‘false statements’.
It said: “The National Action Plan is not a plan in any structured or meaningful way, the NACTA has categorically failed, the complete lack of a counter extremism narrative is deplorable, lamentable, and totally tragic.”
‘Media coverage seems to converge around the propaganda of terrorists, which is disseminated in breach of section 11W of the ATA.’
The commission also shared 18 recommendations for the implementation.
