Social Expo 2016 to showcase exemplary services to humanity

KARACHI: Social Expo 2016 is an exclusive initiative taken by Markaz-e-Umeed that will bring together around 200 NGOs, non-profit organisations (NPO) and community service organisations from various corners of Pakistan under one roof.

The event will allow them to showcase their humanitarian efforts to enhance the quality of life of underprivileged people. Markaz-e-Umeed takes pride in the fact that it launched this idea a few years back and till date has successfully convened it twice.

The third edition of ‘Social Expo’ will unfold at 10:30am on Sunday (today) at Karachi Expo Centre. Participating organisations will share a platform under an inspiring theme showcasing social activism. Sui Southern Gas Company is providing support for this event.

The core objective of this expo is to provide a platform to NPOs engaged in community services regarding education, health, human rights, environment, calamities, skill development and poverty alleviation. The expo will provide them the opportunity to display their exemplary work. Simultaneously, they would be seeking partnerships with the corporate sector, giving businesses a chance to initiate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

The event is expected to be visited by scores of decision makers and general public, as for the last one month, 5,000 volunteers are making arrangements for the mass participation of people from multiple sectors - corporate, government, academia, healthcare and media.

Markaz-e-Umeed is not charging for participation in the event and aims to assist NPOs in all possible ways to help them find prospective donors.

The event will also feature exclusive awards that would be conferred upon 13 organisations that have excelled in serving society.

Furthermore, Faisal Edhi has consented to confer Lifetime Achievement Edhi Awards to Dr Adib Rizvi of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and Dr Ruth Pfau of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre for dedicating their lives for humanity.
