Last conversation between air traffic control, pilot of PK-661
KARACHI: The pilot of flight PK-166- made two mayday calls before the aircraft crashed into mountains killing all 47 people on board.
Geo News on Monday acquired the last conversation that took place between the pilot and the air traffic control.
During the mayday call, the control tower and the pilot exchange information about the altitude of the flight and its distance from the Islamabad airport.
The first call was made when the engine of the PK-661 stopped functioning while the other was about the emergency landing in Islamabad. The pilot informed the control tower that the altitude of the flight was 70,000 ft before losing contact in the first call.
A frantic repetition of “PK-661” is relayed from control tower until the pilot manages to restore contact saying “Mayday, Mayday”. The pilot then informs air traffic control about failure of one of the engines and number of people on board the aircraft.
The control tower informs the pilot that Runway 3 of the Islamabad Airport is prepared for zero landing. After receiving no response from the pilot, a voice from control tower is heard saying “PK-661, Negative Radar Contact, switch on Transponder. Is visibility clear for landing”.
The aircraft vanished after the two mayday calls, according to Geo News.
