‘Protests last hope for justice against corrupt rulers’
Imran says Nawaz would be captain if corrupt cricket team was formed, accuses PM of lying in parliament
By: OnlineSWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan reiterated to protest against ‘corrupt rulers’ in case the Supreme Court (SC) does not serve justice over the Panama Papers scandal.
“We approached all state institutions and were denied justice. We then turned to the Supreme Court and if it fails to provide justice, I will take to the streets and continue to fight against these corrupt rulers till my last breath,” the PTI chairman said while addressing his party workers in Swabi on Sunday.
Imran accused Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and his family for having ‘illegal’ property, worth billions of rupees, in London, but the PM has not spent anything on the people’s welfare. “It is as if Imran sends money abroad to his sons and then they send it back to him claiming they have earned it abroad,” Imran said, mocking the PM.
The cricketer-turned-politician lamented that when he protests after losing faith in the state institutions, he is accused of inviting the military to take over the country. He questioned this by saying, “How can I be accused of inviting military to rule the country when Maryam Nawaz (PM’s daughter) tweeted saying that the storm had passed, hinting that the new chief justice and army chief favoured the rulers.”
The PTI chief further added that the Nawaz-led government destroyed all state institutions except the judiciary and army. “There are two institutions that have not been manipulated, the Supreme Court and Pakistan Army,” he said. Imran accused the PM of telling lies in the Parliament and in the court. Taunting the PM, Imran told party workers that if a corrupt cricket team would be formed, its captain would be Nawaz Sharif.
He then went on to ask two questions from the crowd and directed them to raise their hands in response to the queries, “How many of you think Nawaz is the culprit in the Panama case,” he asked and then told the media men to turn their cameras at the crowd and show the footage to everyone in the country. He once against questioned people if they thought Pakistan’s justice system would punish the prime minister.
Imran said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would change the fate of the Pakistani economy. However, he said his party’s government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had concerns over the federal government’s role and not China. “Nawaz has never stood by his words. He made promises in the All Parties Conference (APC) that KP would be a part of the CPEC but later backed out of his promise.”
The PTI leader suggested that all chief ministers of the smaller provinces should inquire about the details of the agreement on CEPC with China. Criticising Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Asfandyar Wali, Imran said that both play on either sides of the wicket to make the premier as well as people of KP happy.”
