Politicising CPEC would turn it into ‘Kalabagh Dam’: Rafique

ISLAMABAD: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique urged political parties not to criticise the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“The project will never be completed if everyone demands the road to cross through their areas,” he said on Thursday, lashing out at political leaders seeking a greater part in CPEC.

“CPEC is an indication of hope for Pakistan. However, many countries, including some of our neighbours, are working hard to make sure it fails,” he added, “Our enemies don’t want Pakistan to progress because it has the potential to become a superpower.”

He warned that if the leaders continue to sabotage the project, it would turn into another ‘Kalabagh Dam.’ During his speech, he also criticised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, saying that he should go through his party’s political history and learn something from it.

“PPP should focus on performing rather than raising political slogans,” he said, adding that the 2018 elections would be fought based on performance only.
