‘Impossible’ NIC verification process running successfully: Nisar
ISLAMABAD: Addressing a press conference on Friday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan admitted that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is facing issues.
The Interior Minister said that Pakistani identity cards’ recovery from the possession of terrorists damaged the country on different levels. He admitted that NADRA had problems, however; the government was making efforts to introduce solutions with the passage of time.
Nisar said that National Identity Cards’ (NIC) verification process was branded ‘impossible’ by the naysayers, but the government proved them wrong.
He said that at least 2,23,512 fake cards were blocked in 2016. The six-month efforts for the verification process were successful. While talking about efforts against extremists, he revealed that former Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour’s ID card was issued in 2005.
He further said that around 0.45 million fake ID cards were blocked in the last three and a half years, claiming that that no action was taken against the bogus ID cards before 2011. Nisar also said that over 32,000 passports were revoked in the past years. The Interior Minister said that sims of mobile phones were verified as well.
The federal minister asserted that fake cards and passports were not issued in the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that began in 2013.
