Not Nawaz, people get to choose PM: Opp Leader
LAHORE: Addressing a rally in Pano Aqil on Thursday, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah said that only the people get to choose their next prime minister, not Nawaz Sharif.
“How can he decide who the next prime minister would be when the authority to choose the PM lies with the people?” he said.
Khurshid’s statement was in reference to the former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif’s announcement on Wednesday in which he nominated his brother Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s candidature for the premiership.
The announcement came after a party meeting held at Nawaz’s residence Jati Umra. Nawaz also said that despite the difference of opinion between them, he was happy with his brother for never having violated the party discipline.
Earlier in July, the former primer had nominated his brother for the same position but the latter declined, citing the problems Punjab government’s projects would suffer if he took the position.
