No gas load shedding this winter: ECC
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Tuesday decided that there would be no gas load shedding in the country during the Dec-Feb period.
The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar, allowed injection of around 160 mmcfd per day re-gasified LNG volumes in the SNGPL systems for consumption by the domestic and commercial users.
The available indigenous gas meets merely 60% of the needs. Against the demand for over 6 billion cubic feet of gas per day (bcfd), the available indigenous gas stands at only 2.22 bcfd, the Petroleum Division informed the ECC.
Meanwhile, the ECC also allowed the Power Division to avail Islamic funding to pay off circular debt for which a committee had already been formed. The committee will decide on the procedure for the Islamic funding. According to sources, approximately Rs 100 billion in loans would be taken from Islamic banks.
